December 24, 2015It’s been a big week this week at Nine Lives Greece, and we’d like to thank all our fans and supporters for their unending support and inspiration! All of your positive thoughts, prayers and messages from all around the world give us the strength never to give up!
We owe it to you to give you a full brief on where we stand with the #EmbassyCats so here goes:
The good news
First the good news – we have Squinty! Following days of searching in the greater area all around where Mohawk & Pumpkin were rescued, we’ve found Squinty!
She was hiding in a worksite between a dumping ground and a busy road leading to Parnitha. The owners of the worksite, on seeing the poster, kindly gave us permission to search this huge site, and we found her hidden between machinery and construction materials.
Squinty is painfully emaciated, filthy & suffering from flu, but still had plenty of purrs for her rescuers. We took her straight to the vet for emergency treatment, as she is in critical condition after this ordeal.
Even better news
Squinty will be adopted! As soon as dear Squinty is well enough to leave the vet, she will move into her forever home! Her adopters are a caring American couple who used to see Squinty at the Embassy and loved to sit on the bench in the sun with her each morning.
Like so many others within the Embassy, they were horrified at the news of the cats’ removal. They cannot wait for Squinty to join them in their sunny and warm central Athens home. A Christmas miracle!
What about the other #EmbassyCats ?
If you’ve been following this story, you already know that four cats were removed from the US Embassy Grounds (get the background story here) – of those four, three are now accounted for.
Fourteen-year old Squinty was found, and already has a home waiting for her. Pumpkin the friendly 7-month old was also found and rehomed (adopted by an American family), and Mohawk still needs an adopter. That leaves just one cat still missing – Chevvy.
A little about Mohawk (who needs a home)
Mohawk is one of the #EmbassyCats removed from the US Embassy Athens grounds almost two weeks ago. He and his pal Pumpkin were found and rescued a day later by caring Embassy individuals who went to search as soon as they learned what had happened.
Mohawk is recovering well from his ordeal and his foster-carers are trying to spoil him to vibrant health. He needs a loving home where he is appreciated for his sunny, sociable and affectionate nature. Ideally he should be an inside cat, as he is so curious that he could easily be at risk outside. He needs a lot of attention and although he can get carried away with his games, he loves to cuddle. He follows his foster-carers around the house, and loves human company. He might be happiest as an only cat, or with a gentle, easygoing kitty, as, even when he was at the embassy, we are told that he was somewhat bullied by the other cats. He is around 8 months old, neutered, and all-white except for his striking silver ‘mohawk’.

Sadly, we still have had no sighting of poor Chevvy, but the search continues. Chevvy is a friendly, young, black, neutered male cat, and we are currently searching for him in the area where we found Squinty.
